These beaches on and around Hartland form part of the dramatic Atlantic Heritage Coast of North Devon and North Cornwall.

There's something for everyone in and around the Hartland area. You'll find a wonderful selection of beaches nearby, whether you're looking for golden sand, waterfalls, or secluded coves with rock pools. There's also an excellent choice of surfing beaches for both novice and experienced surfers.

Hartland Quay & Hartland Point

Hartland Point
The Lighthouse has a beam that is visible from about 20 miles out to sea. There are excellent views up and down the rugged north coast from Hartland Point.

Hartland Quay
Hartland Quay has great rocks rearing out of the sea; on a stormy day, sample the ferocious majesty of the wild and unpredictable Atlantic Ocean. On fine days, Lundy Island can be seen some 10 miles distant. Hartland Quay Museum contains information on shipwrecks, of which there have been many in the vicinity, and local places of historic interest.

 

Sandymouth

As the name suggests this large sandy well-sheltered National Trust beach is popular with swimmers and surfers alike.

The cliffs surrounding the beach offer a great variety of wild flowers and there are breathtaking views south to Bude and Trevose Head.

Large car park and lovely tearoom. Lifeguard cover during the holiday season.

 

 

 

Bucks Mills

 

You can drive most of the way down a long and winding road through the valley to the visitor's car park.

The path then takes you to the sea passed old limekilns to a pebbly beach with lovely rock pools. From the beach there are spectacular views of Bideford Bay and Lundy Island.

 

 

 

Duckpool

Nestling between the high headlands of Warren Point and Steeple Point (both over 100 metres high).
Duckpool is approached via a wooded valley .With a small free car park, this beach is a good starting point for a coast path walk south to Sandymouth.

Lovely views south to Trevose Head. Sandy beach at low tide but not suitable for swimmers.

 

 

Welcombe Mouth

A secluded and quiet bay located at the end of a rough unmade road. A small car park gives access to one of the loveliest beaches near Hartland.

Some of the lanes to get here are quite narrow but it is worth the effort.

Sandy from mid tide onwards, it also offers some excellent rock pools.

 

 

 

Speke's Mill Mouth

A twenty-minute walk south of Hartland Quay brings you to Speke's Mill Mouth with its beautiful waterfall and long curving beach.

Access to the beach via steps gives you sandy stretches at low tide running down to the shore.

Surfers like to visit Spekes for its renowned reef brake, yet it remains peaceful and quiet even at the height of summer.
